Dr. Maria Montessori
(1870 – 1952)
Dr. Montessori was Italy’s first female physician, a scientist, and a three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee. In 1907 she opened her first Casa dei Bambini for impoverished children in Rome, and what she observed there became the foundation of a global movement. Her guiding principle was simple: “Follow the child. They will show you what they need to do.”
